FAQ

Material Questions

We use high quality, commercial grade acrylic (aka. Perspex) which has a 20 year warranty against yellowing due to UV damage.

Acrylic is a brittle material so care must be taken when drilling holes. Three simple rules can make DIY holes a success every time:

1. The simplest thing you can do is to use older, dull drill bits - newer sharp drill bits can be too aggressive.

2. Make your holes as far away from the edge of the acrylic as practical.

3. Make your holes 1-2mm larger than the screws so that the material has room to expand and contract in changing temperatures. And of course, do not over tighten screws!

The most reliable DIY tool for cutting acrylic is a jigsaw with a fine tooth blade normally used for cutting metal. Wood working saw blades are too aggressive and will destroy the acrylic. You can cleanup any cut edges with a file and/or sandpaper.

Do not use window cleaners or harsh chemicals on acrylic, it will cause permanent damage. Simple dish soap mixed with water is the best option, or there are dedicated acrylic cleaning chemicals available. Never use abrasive cloths/sponges.

The best options include:

1. Screws/bolts (avoid threading directly into acrylic)

2. Neutral-cure silicones

3. Double-sided tape rated for outdoor use

Pool Safety Questions

Under Australian Standard AS 1926.1, your pool barrier must have a 900mm Non-Climbable Zone (NCZ) on the outside of the fence. This zone must be completely free of any potential holds, steps, or climbable objects that a child could use to scale the barrier.

A standard outdoor garden tap or pipe junction within this 900mm radius is classified as a climbable foothold. Installing our 60° anti-climb tap cover over the fixture eliminates the flat surface, making it impossible to gain a foothold and instantly resolving the defect.

By law, an outdoor pool safety barrier must be at least 1.2m (1200mm) high from the finished ground level on the outside. If a permanent climbable object (like a retaining wall, garden bed, or stable deck) sits nearby, it effectively reduces that barrier height.

Our clear acrylic fence extensions are designed to easily clamp or screw onto your existing pool fence or boundary paling, adding the necessary compliant height to meet the standard without blocking your sunlight or view.

We supply our products in standard sizes to fit the majority of Australian pool layouts and accessory configurations.

Some of our products (like fence extensions or gap fillers) are also standard sizes that can be trimmed to fit your requirements. Some of these sizes are dictated by Australia Post size limitations. See our "Material Questions" section about cutting and drilling acrylic.

Not all pool compliance defects can be solved with our standard products. Get in touch if you need custom acrylic solutions, or contact a local plastic fabricator like Bent Plastics (Sunshine Coast) to manufacture custom panels and solutions.

Our products are manufactured in strict accordance with the geometry and dimensions required by AS 1926.1. However, product compliance is only half the battle—the final pass depends entirely on correct installation.

You must ensure the product is mounted securely at the correct regulated height, or at a correct location to eliminate climbable zones. Once installed, your local council or a licensed private pool inspector must conduct a physical assessment to issue your final compliance certificate.

In order to keep our costs low, we do not have the resources to review pool safety reports. We recommend speaking to a pool safety inspector to better understand your report and the products required to pass compliance.
